Joining Hands to Promote the Safe Development of PV industry in Philippines
Huawei Digital Power Philippines hosted a Power Coffee Salon on August 22, 2023 to discuss the importance of safety standards on solar roofs. The event brought more than 30 experts from IIEE, Meralco, Solaric, First Power Electrical, AboitizPower, Solar Philippines and MSpectrum to explore the latest developments in solar roof technology and emphasize the importance of adhering to safety standards.
FusionSolar's safety shutdown function was verified in a commercial building rooftop PV project, offering the highest level of personal safety. DC arcs cause over 60% of PV plant fire accidents. The active and rapid shutdown is essential for the asset safety of C&I PV systems and firefighter safety. Attendees were introduced to AFCI and rapid shutdown solutions for solar roof applications designed to prevent electrical fires and ensure a safe environment.
"When it comes to rooftop PV systems, safety should be non-negotiable. As an industry leader, standard compliance advocate, and engineering practitioner, it is our core responsibility to ensure that PV systems installed on rooftop living spaces are fire-safe, of high quality, and compliant with local standards and practices. Although Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) and Solar Panel Rapid Shutdown Device (RSD) are part of our standards and proven solutions in preventing fires and reducing electrocution, more work is needed in the areas of PV fire hazard education, product standard compliance, and inter-agency collaboration to fully safeguard the PV industry and protect the lives of our customers," said Vic Cris Magdali, PEE, the Executive Product Manager of APAC Competence Center, Smart PV Team, Huawei Digital Power.
"We believe that through discussion and collaboration, we can continue to make significant strides in ensuring safety standards are upheld and that the benefits of solar power can be enjoyed by all," said Cody Guo, CEO of Huawei Digital Power Philippines.
