[Copenhagen, October 17, 2023] The Energy Storage Summit Europe 2023 was held at the
Axelborg
Convention Centre, in the heart of Copenhagen.
The Summit aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing around innovative energy storage
technologies and
forward-thinking applications, with the ultimate goal of promoting green and sustainable development in the
industry
for a brighter future.
Over 300 PV industry leaders, technical experts and associations have joined us from across Europe to
exchange on
their understanding of market & technology trends and challenges, latest technologies and solutions, project
experiences and insights with regards to utility Energy storage for grid forming, frequency control, peak
shaving,
PV and wind colocation, energy trading etc.
Jacky Chen, President of Huawei Digital Power Europe, welcomed the audience and walked it
through
the huge opportunities offered by the Energy Storage industry. Those opportunities are heavily driven by the
commitments made by the European countries to reach the carbon neutrality objective by 2030. He also pointed
out the
requirement to significantly increase the current energy capabilities in order to achieve such an objective
as well
the opportunity to join forces with industry experts, ecosystem partners and customers to promote energy
transformation, contribute to the world sustainable development, and create a better, greener future.
He, then, detailed the value Huawei brings as strategic partner today and in the future: Huawei provides the
world
leading reliable technology, supported by 30+ years of unwavering investment in R&D; it uniquely innovates
by
integrating digital technology with power electronics technology in order to develop clean energy, energy
digitalization, and promotes the energy transition; Huawei is committed to support the growth of this
industry and
his partners and customers ecosystem today and in the future.
Mr. Jacky Chen, President of Huawei Digital Power Technologies European Region
"At Huawei, we are dedicated to collaborating with our partners and the renewable energy industry to
create a
resilient and efficient digital power ecosystem. This ecosystem empowers individuals, businesses, and
communities to embrace renewable energy and make a positive impact on the environment. Together, we can
build a
greener and more sustainable world for future generations."
Michael Villa, Executive Director of smartEN shared his insights on the supporting role
played by
energy storage facilities as needs for EU energy system flexibility increase significantly.
He explained that the need for energy System flexibility will continue to increase and will be supported by
a broad
spectrum of energy storage facilities. He added that most existing barriers have not yet been addressed at
national
and local level despite being already been identified and addressed at EU level.
According to him there is “No time to waste if we want to accelerate climate neutrality while ensuring a
reliable,
secure and efficient energy system”.
Michael Villa, Executive Director of smartEN
“The broad spectrum of energy storage facilities (from #bidirectional EV charging to home #batteries and
large
storage assets in industry) can support this increasing systemic need. Investments should be justified
by the
contribution to solve a systemic need.”
Albero Cerreti, Convenor of CENELEC TC8X WG03 and Senior Manager at Enel took the stage to
talked
about the challenges faced by the power grid live network, and the requirements for better grid connections.
Albero Cerreti, Convenor of CENELEC TC8X WG03 and Senior Manager at Enel
“European Standardization is needed as the proposed legal text is not able to provide the needed degree of
technical details, grid-forming definition at European level would allow Manufacturers in products
development
and testing and RSOs in performing needed simulations.”
Ireneusz Konarski, Head of Sales Strategy & Business Development, at Elemental talked on
the topic
battery recycling plant and the new regulations that covers all cycle life of batteries from production
through
reuse to recycling, including SBESS (stationary battery energy storage systems).
Mr. Ireneusz Konarski, Head of Sales Strategy & Business Development, Elemental
“Nowadays new technologies play a significant role in our live. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are
key
part in the green energy revolution, as they support the transition to a more sustainable and low-carbon
energy
system.
Without recycling there will be no energy transition and circular economy. Recycling is one of the key
elements
in this transition. Only properly managing e-waste including also batteries, we can contribute to a more
sustainable and environmentally friendly future.”
Rickard Lantz, Director of business development of Soltech, shared his experience with
Huawei
Solution from the perspective of EPC for frequency control market.
Rickard Lantz, Director of business development of Soltech
“A virtual power plant with batteries complements the reduced inertia and creates stable electricity,
which is an
important parameter for stable grids.”
Olle Mattsson, Business Development Responsible at CheckWatt, shared his experience on the
development of energy service from Batteries (revenue generating services & enabling services) and Resource
efficiency through smart measurement, control and visualization.
Olle Mattsson, Business Development Responsible of CheckWatt
"The future for batteries is bright. As an aggregator, we are at the center of this new future, providing
flexibility to those who need it the most, whether it's for ancillary services, local flex markets, or
imbalance
correction. I don't know , but I am confident that batteries will play a vital role in enabling the
energy
transition."
Florian Schoenberger, CEO Vispiron EPC GmbH gave a presentation on the way SEtrade has
cracked the
code for the new fuel: Data, trading algorithms and capacities.
He emphasized that “SEtrade platform integrates business models to ensure economic operation and the
achievement of
climate targets. Battery storage plays an import role in SEtrade Platform”.

David Minnis, Director of PV & BESS Service Solution at Huawei Digital Power, talked about
powering
the Future through Huawei's large-scale BESS for Grid Flexibility & Resilience.
David Minnis, Director of PV & BESS Service Solution, Huawei Digital Power
"The battery energy storage sector in Europe is really picking up pace, this was evident as we had a
packed house
for our energy storage summit in Copenhagen. Customers from investment, development, deployment and
operations
attended to hear the experts and partner testimonials. Overall feedback was great and I am looking
forward to
how this industry will grow exponentially."
Ignacio Diaz, Business Director of EV Charging at Huawei Digital Power, walked the audience
through
the newly launched PV+ESS+Liquid Cooled Ultra-Fast Charging Architecture and shared his thoughts on the way
this
